Proceeds of crime legislation

Summary

Ray Butler asks when the Criminal Justice (Proceeds of Crime) Bill will strengthen CAB forfeiture powers; the Taoiseach says discussions are ongoing and publication will be next year.

When is it expected that the criminal justice (proceeds of crime) Bill, to strengthen the powers of CAB in forfeiting the proceeds of crime, will be published? Naturally, one of the big issues would be the smuggling that is having a significant effect on this country.

I can confirm for Deputy Butler that the proceeds of crime Bill is the subject of discussions with CAB. It will be next year before the Bill is published.
