NTMA and school admissions Bills

Summary

Deputy Durkan asks about the NTMA (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill and the Education (Admission to Schools) Bill; the Taoiseach expects the former early next session and says the latter’s heads are before committee.

Bernard Durkan Deputy Bernard J. Durkan Fine Gael

The National Treasury Management Agency (amendment) (No. 2) Bill is promised legislation. Has it been approved and when is it likely to come before the House? Another issue that is becoming increasingly important is admission to schools, particularly in places where there is considerable population expansion and where there may be difficulty, particularly for children who may have been expelled from a school and who may find their second level education frustrated. What is the current situation regarding the education (admission to school) Bill?

Enda Kenny The Taoiseach Fine Gael

The National Treasury Management Agency (amendment) (No. 2) Bill will be early next session. The heads of the education (admission to school) Bill were referred to the Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection recently and I am sure the committee is holding hearings on it at the moment.
