Broadcasting and gambling bills

Summary

John O’Mahony requests updates on broadcasting-charge and gambling-control legislation; the Tánaiste expects the broadcasting Bill late this year and the gambling Bill early next year.

The Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill will provide for the change from a television licence to a broadcasting charge and will have implications for funding of broadcasting. As so much change takes place in the area, it is an important Bill. I thought it was due to be published before the summer, but it seems to have slipped down the ladder.

I also wish to inquire about the gambling control Bill. There is significant concern in regard to the control of online gambling. Will the Tánaiste provide an update on these two Bills?

Comment on this

I understand the broadcasting (amendment) Bill will be introduced late this year and the gambling control Bill early next year.
