Insurance costs and budget

Deputy Moynihan linked promised finance legislation to the insurance crisis and asked whether the budget would address rising premiums. The Chair ruled the question outside promised legislation, and the Tánaiste replied that insurance is being examined by a task force and is an urgent finance priority.

The budget will be introduced on 11 October and a finance Bill will be introduced shortly thereafter. There is a crisis in all sectors of the insurance industry. The Deputy's question did not deal with legislation but what will be in the budget. A task force is working on the issue of insurance, which is an urgent priority for the Minister for Finance.
