Stardust inquest decision
Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked when a response might come on reopening the Stardust inquest. The Taoiseach said the Attorney General was considering the matter and no decision date could be given.
Deputy Broughan was not on my list but given the day that is in it before the recess, I will permit him to speak. I know he will be appropriate.

The Taoiseach met the Stardust relatives and victims' committee approximately six weeks ago. As he will be aware, a detailed report was submitted last November requesting the Attorney General to reopen the Stardust inquest. Is a substantive reply expected next Tuesday from the Taoiseach and the Attorney General about whether that inquest will be reopened?

I met the Stardust families approximately six weeks ago and was very impressed by what they had to say to me but this is a decision for the Attorney General, who is considering it. I am not sure when he will be in a position to make a decision but I know he is giving it very careful consideration.
