Questions to the Taoiseach

Summary

The House moved to questions to the Taoiseach, who first withdrew and apologised for remarks about sinning priests that had caused offence. The Chair then ruled there could be no debate on the personal statement and moved on.

Leo Varadkar The Taoiseach Fine Gael

Before I reply to questions, I made some remarks in relation to sinning priests this time last week on Leaders’ Questions. They caused offence to people. I never intended to offend. I wish to apologise to anyone whom I offended, including the Deputy, and to withdraw the remarks.

If that is a personal statement, then we move on: there can be no debate as per Standing Orders.
