Family courts Bill timing

Summary

Deputy Durkan asked when the promised family courts Bill would come before the House. The Minister said a memorandum to Government was nearly ready and the Bill was a departmental priority.

Bernard Durkan Deputy Bernard J. Durkan Fine Gael

The family courts Bill is promised legislation. It proposes to establish a family court system within the existing structures. Where stands the Bill and when is it likely to come before the House?

Comment on this

I am almost in a position to bring a memorandum to Government. I would expect to do so if not before the final Cabinet meeting of this year, then certainly at the first or second Cabinet meeting early in the new year. The Bill is a priority for me and my Department.
