Dáil
‹ Twenty Third Report of the Standing Committee of Selection: Motion

Standing Committee of Selection report

Summary

The Minister moved approval of the Twenty Third Report of the Standing Committee of Selection to change committee memberships. Deputy Murphy opposed it, arguing Deputy Neasa Hourigan was being punished for voting against the eviction ban; the motion was then deferred to a later vote.

Hildegarde Naughton Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach Fine Gael

I move:

That Dáil Éireann approves the Twenty Third Report of the Standing Committee of Selection in accordance with Standing Order 34, copies of which were laid before Dáil Éireann on 24th April, 2023, and discharges members from Committees and appoints members to Committees accordingly.

Comment on this

It is not agreed on the grounds that it includes the removal of Deputy Neasa Hourigan from three committees which, in effect, is a punishment of her for voting against the eviction ban. She was right to vote against the eviction ban and she should not be punished on that basis.

Comment on this

This is a motion without debate.

Comment on this

As a vote has been called, it is deferred until this evening.
