Unified Patent Court referendum

Summary

Deputy Stanton welcomed the planned referendum on the Unified Patent Court and asked when enabling legislation would be published. The Taoiseach said it would have to come very soon if the June referendum was to proceed.

I warmly welcome the decision by the Government yesterday to hold a referendum in June on the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court. I am told that this could result in added value to the economy of €1.6 billion per annum. When does the Taoiseach expect the legislation to enable this referendum to go ahead to be published?

That is a good question. It will have to be pretty soon. In order to have the referendum in the first ten days of June, we will have to publish the legislation soon. I think there is a draft floating around, so I would say it will happen in the next week or two.
