Bike shelter contract

Summary

Deputy Murphy criticised the costly bike shelter and the outsourcing of the project to a private firm. The Taoiseach said he did not have the details to hand and suggested a parliamentary question.

I want to raise the infamous bike shelter which the public has paid almost €350,000 for. This is obviously a massive waste of public money but I do not believe it is just that. It is also an example of a private company profiteering off the backs of the public, and the consequences of the outsourcing of basic public infrastructural projects to private companies. I understand the company that got the extraordinary contract is Sensori Facilities Management. It is a company that was originally founded by Michael Stone, whose name was last mentioned here in connection with putting up posters for Paschal Donohoe. It is no longer owned by Michael Stone. It is in receipt of a huge number of contracts from the public sector. Does the Taoiseach understand yet who within the OPW signed off on this contract? Can we find out the total value of all the contracts that Sensori has with the OPW? What is the total value of all the contracts Sensori has with the public sector as a whole? I think we will find it is a very large amount.

I am not quite sure what the tone or the implication of that is, a Cheann Comhairle; that is for you to consider. Certainly on that matter I would not have that information to hand on Questions on Policy or Legislation. I am sure a written parliamentary question would elicit the answer.
