Deputy Jackie Cahill asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine in a case whereby an individual intends to travel with their pet dog to Ireland from the UK on 27 December and plans for tapeworm treatment to be given to their dog five days prior, the recommended course of action in the instance that their means of travel was delayed, leaving the five-day window to lapse and the owner is unable find an available vet during the holiday period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. If an individual is bringing a dog into Ireland from the UK, it must be treated for tapeworm by a vet between 1 and 5 days before arrival in Ireland. If the individuals means of travel are delayed and the 5-day window has been exceeded, the individual should get a second tapeworm treatment completed.
