The National Archives Advisory Council (NAAC) is established under the National Archives Act 1986, to advise me on archives and their use by the public. The NAAC’s primary function is to be a voice and national platform for records and archival issues. It is not a governing board, but primarily focused on advocacy and awareness raising.

The NAAC consists of a Chair and 11 members, at least two of whom must be members of the Irish Manuscripts Commission and not less than two archivists who are not employed by the National Archives.

The appointment of a Chair and Council members is under consideration and will be progressed in due course.
