Homelessness and emergency accommodation
Deputy Boyd Barrett links the residential tenancies legislation to rising homelessness and repeatedly seeks an emergency debate on record numbers in emergency accommodation. He cites cases of elderly people and families needing help.
One of the disastrous consequences of the Residential Tenancies (Amendment) Act is that it will fuel even further homelessness and people being forced into emergency accommodation because they cannot find an affordable rental property.
For weeks now I have been asking at the Business Committee for an emergency debate on the record levels of homelessness and people in emergency accommodation. There was the Simon Community report and I am getting loads of cases.
