St John Ambulance survivors
Deputy Heneghan raises survivors’ concerns about slow progress and poor communication following the Geoffrey Shannon report on abuse in St John Ambulance Ireland. The Taoiseach says he will speak to the Minister for Children and encourage contact between the Department and the survivors.
Is mian liom ceist a chur ar an Taoiseach maidir le rud faoina raibh mé ag caint le duine ó mo Dháilcheantar i Marino, Mick Finnegan. It is to do with the Geoffrey Shannon report into historical child sexual abuse in St. John Ambulance Ireland. The survivors, including Mick Finnegan, have contacted me about not only the lack of progress but the lack of basic communication from the Department of children. Many feel they have been left out completely and some say their efforts to secure a meeting have not been acknowledged. The people who came to me and with whom I have had meetings came forward with a serious abuse issue. They have engaged with the State in process and good faith. They deserve better than silence.
Inniu, is í an cheist atá á cur agam ar an Taoiseach ná cad é atá ag tarlú leis an status report anois. Is there any timeline for the report on St. John Ambulance Ireland and will any steps be taken to ensure survivors are properly informed?

Beidh mé ag labhairt leis an Aire leanaí, an Teachta Norma Foley, faoin cheist seo. Tá deacrachtaí ann agus níl Mick Finnegan sásta leis an méid atá tar éis tarlú go dtí seo. Mar sin, beidh mé ag labhairt leis an Aire agus, b’fhéidir, déanfar teagmháil idir an Roinn agus na daoine a luaigh an Teachta Heneghan.
