The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI), the Pharmacy Regulator, is the registering authority for pharmacies in Ireland. Pharmacies are requested to notify their usual opening hours to the PSI for registration purposes, and this is reflected on the PSI’s online public registers, which can be checked by the public (see [www.psi.ie/search-registers]).

Opening times are a commercial matter for each community pharmacy, which operates as a private entity.

Where a pharmacy chooses to deliver contracted services on behalf of the State and operate a Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement for the Provision of Pharmacy Services under the Health Acts, the contract makes provision for local schemes to be put in place, following consultation between the relevant parties, to ensure that pharmacies are open to provide services at all reasonable times. Oversight of the Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement rests with the HSE Primary Care Reimbursement Service. Accordingly, I have raised this matter with their office for consideration.
