I propose to take Questions Nos. 2091 and 2092 together.
I understand that Parliamentary Question No 831 of 4 February sought: "To ask the Minister for Justice; Home Affairs and Migration the number of Garda CCTV cameras currently operational in each Garda division, in tabular form."
I am informed by the Garda Authorities that the specific data requested is not available in a centralised format within the existing ICT systems. However, work is ongoing which will enhance the ability of An Garda Síochána’s ICT Division to centrally monitor and report on the status of the CCTV network. This work will be dependent on the completion of a number of procurement exercises being completed, as well as new processes being developed and put in place in order to track this information.
Drawing from available records held centrally, An Garda Síochána have provided the table below with details of the number of Garda CCTV schemes and the number of locations authorised for Garda CCTV Cameras within each scheme, by Division.
This data covers schemes approved since 23 March 2012.
*Note this information reflects the approved locations for CCTV to operate under an approved scheme. Operational cameras at a location may be subject to change.
Two Divisions, namely DMR North and Donegal, do not currently have authorised Garda CCTV schemes in place.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that it would take a disproportionate amount of time and resources to quantify the number of “operational cameras” at each authorised location. Even in circumstances where this were possible, this data cannot be provided in real time, with consistency and reliability, due to cameras going in and out of service e.g. for maintenance reasons.
For the purposes of answering this question Garda CCTV cameras has been interpreted to mean Authorised Garda CCTV schemes and therefore excludes data related to other CCTV schemes operated by third parties such as local authorities, which An Garda Síochána may also have access to.
