2970. Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher asked the Minister for Health if she accepts that the provision of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) to women with type 2 diabetes during pregnancy provides better glycaemic control than invasive blood glucose testing (finger prick testing) for both mother and baby over the duration of pregnancy; if she will make CGM available to women with type 2 diabetes during their pregnancy (approximately 300 per year); and if she will make a statement on the matter. As this is a service matter and under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for decisions on the pricing and reimbursement of medicines and medical devices, this question has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
