The Embassy in Washington D.C. leads on Ireland's engagement with the State of Virginia.
Ambassador Byrne Nason met with former Governor of Virginia Glenn Youngkin on 5 November 2025. This meeting took place at the opening of an Irish company's manufacturing facility in Williamsburg Virginia. Ambassador Byrne Nason and Governor Youngkin were both speakers at the opening ceremony, and also received a tour of the facility.
Governor Youngkin concluded his term of office on 17 January 2026. His successor is Governor Abigail Spanberger. Ambassador Byrne Nason has yet to formally meet with Governor Spanberger but looks forward to the opportunity of doing so in due course.
