Portmarnock pool repair funding

Summary

Deputy Smith sought stronger Government funding for repairs to Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club’s swimming pool, noting local council support. The Taoiseach treated it as a community or sports matter and said he would speak to both Ministers about it.

A couple of weeks ago, I raised with the Taoiseach the need to repair the swimming pool at Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club, PSLC. The PSLC is a vital piece of local infrastructure across Fingal and 90% of its users are not-for-profit community pool or non-members of the leisure centre.

Fingal County Council has stepped up to the tune of €500,000 towards the overall cost of repair, which is approximately €1 million. The Government has not yet committed funding. There is talk of about €100,000 coming from central government, but we need more. Either way, we need a commitment to ensure that this repair project can begin and end as soon as possible. This is not the large-scale sport infrastructure fund, LSSIF, or the sports capital programme. It would be through the Minister, Dara Calleary's community fund.

It is a community matter.

I do not have the specifics of this. Is it Portmarnock community centre?

Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club. We have spoken about it before. It is the pool there.

That could be a sports matter. I will talk to both Ministers and we will see what we can do.
