Sports capital applications
Deputy O'Meara asks about the community sports facilities fund and when applications will reopen. The Taoiseach says the scheme is important and hopes applications can open in the next month or two.
We have two Members waiting. We have taken the number of Members required but we will take the remaining two Members. I ask them to be brief.

The community sports facilities fund, formally known as the sports capital grant, is very popular in north Tipperary and north-west Kilkenny. I will be hosting an information evening with the Minister of State with responsibility for sport, Deputy Charlie McConalogue, on Tuesday, 26 May at 8 p.m. in Littleton in the Moycarkey-Borris Community and Sports Centre. It is in conjunction with Senator Imelda Goldsboro from south Tipperary and local councillor and Littleton man, Councillor Sean Ryan. The previous Government delivered record funding for sports clubs across Tipperary. I have two questions on behalf of the clubs I represent in north Tipperary and north-west Kilkenny. First, when will applications open? Second, how long after applications close do we expect grants to be awarded?

I thank Deputy O’Meara for raising this issue. Clearly, he has assembled a formidable Tipperary team for that public information meeting that will involve both Tipperary and north Kilkenny. I anticipate it will be this year. Hopefully, we will be in a position to open for applications in the next month or two. It is a vital scheme that reaches into communities. Across the length and breadth of the country, we can see the impact of this scheme, with first-class sporting facilities in communities and clubs from all different codes. It is important that we can facilitate the applications again this year.
