544. Deputy Noel McCarthy asked the Minister for Education and Youth further to Parliamentary Question No. 19 of 23 April 2026, to provide an update on her Department’s review of the scope of works and associated costs in providing an entrance and access way to a site (details supplied); the timeline for completion of access works to the site; if access will be made available ahead of the upcoming 2026-2027 school year given the growing local school need for recreational spaces; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The scope of works to provide an access way and entrance for the green area at the educational campus in Carrigtwohill, as referred to by the Deputy, are currently undergoing reassessment and review by the Programme Manager, following my Departments recommendation that a cost-effective solution be considered and resubmitted for further consideration.
Once the scope of works and cost to provide the access and entrance are agreed, procurement of a contractor to complete the works can be undertaken. Until this scope of works is agreed it is not possible to give a timeline for completion.
On completion of the works, my Department intend that the lands be handed over to Cork Education & Training Board to manage and maintain.
It is the intention that the green area access will be shared by all schools on the campus as an occasional recreational green area. See condition 3 - Planning reference 24/05905
My Department continues to have positive and productive engagement with the three schools and their patrons throughout all stages of this project and will continue to support the schools on the new school campus.
