I have recently visited the Tusla Child & Family Agency, Southwest Regional Offices in Glanmire, Cork for the launch of the Social Care Apprenticeship, which will provide 55 additional training places for social care workers from September 2026. This new Social Care apprenticeship creates an additional pathway into the profession, allowing individuals to earn while they learn.

Both I and the Department also have open lines of communication with the Chairperson of Tusla, its Board, its CEO, its Management Board and the broader organisation.

I met with the CEO on several occasions throughout 2025, specifically in February, May, September, October, November, and December. In 2026, I continued these engagements, meeting with the CEO in January, February, March, April, and May.

I also met separately with the Chairperson of the Board in March and November 2025, and again in February 2026.

In addition, I attended meetings with the full Board, including the Chairperson and other Board members, in May and November 2025. These meetings were also attended by the CEO, Departmental officials, and other Tusla officials. A further meeting is scheduled for 19 May 2026.

In addition to regular scheduled meetings that promote mutual understanding of operations and support sound governance and performance oversight of Tusla, we arrange meetings and calls at short notice to address topical and important issues as they arise.

I recognise the challenging work Tusla does and am eager to work with the CEO and Tusla Board in further supporting and developing the Agency.
