1338. Deputy Paul Nicholas Gogarty asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the future plans for the Ukrainian residents currently at a facility (details supplied) in terms of the length of time they are guaranteed accommodation; whether their employment and school needs will be facilitated in terms of future accommodation on a staggered basis while the occupation of Ukraine continues; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can advise the Deputy that, in line with recent Government decisions, a phased withdrawal of State-contracted accommodation for Ukrainians is underway. This includes the setting named by the Deputy. These changes to the accommodation model will be introduced on a phased basis, with information and support provided to residents.
Vulnerable individuals who want to continue to avail of state-supported accommodation will be asked to self-declare their need for continued accommodation detailing their reasons with supporting evidence.
An application process will open later in June. Details on the application process will be available in the coming weeks.
While efforts will be made to keep people who fled the war in Ukraine as local as possible, this will not always be possible, particularly in light of the reduced accommodation portfolio. It is not possible to take issues such as employment or school places into account when allocating follow-on accommodation. People will be encouraged to make their own arrangements if they wish to stay in their current area, with some supports available to do so.
Plans are advancing in respect of the accommodation named by the Deputy. Further details will be made available as plans are finalised.
My Department will aim to ensure that residents are informed of impending changes in sufficient time for onward arrangements to be made.
