Seán Canney Minister of State at the Department of Transport Independent

As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that the National Vehicle and Driver File (NVDF) Bill 2025 incorporates legislative amendments required to allow for the digitisation of motor tax, insurance and NCT/CVRT discs. The project, once implemented, will eliminate the need for vehicle owners to display discs on their vehicle.

A precise date for implementation will depend on the progress of the Bill, which is currently being drafted by the Office of Parliamentary Counsel.
