Driver Licences

335. Deputy Maurice Quinlivan asked the Minister for Transport the reason for the current delays in the issuing of driving licences by the National Driver Licence Service; the steps being taken to address the backlog of pending licences; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [45782/26]

Seán Canney Minister of State at the Department of Transport Independent

Under the Road Safety Authority Act 2006, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has statutory responsibility for the National Driver Licence Service, including all service and operational matters.

I have therefore referred the Deputy's question to the RSA for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
