The Government Digital Wallet is being developed in line with the EU eIDAS 2 Regulation, which requires the State to make a Digital Wallet available.

A formal public consultation process is underway since April 2026 to gather views from citizens, stakeholders and experts.

This is complemented by public testing on an opt-in basis, with feedback directly informing the final design, prioritisation of features, and safeguards.

The consultation will close on 24 June 2026 and shortly after this a summary of the responses along with submissions from the organisations which responded to the questionnaire will be published on the department’s website.
