Departmental Funding

464. Deputy Séamus McGrath asked the Minister for Health if she will provide an update on the funding cut for the serious neurodevelopmental disability of foetal alcohol spectrum disorder; if this can be reviewed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [46475/26]

Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a prevalent, yet preventable, neuro-developmental disorder. FASD is caused by prenatal alcohol exposure and can lead to lifelong challenges with learning, behaviour, health, and social skills. Depending on their needs children, young adults, and families living with FASD may need support from different services, including primary care, disability services, and mental health care.

As Minister for Health, I am committed to ensuring this Government delivers the appropriate services for each person with FASD in line with their needs.

As this is a service matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond to the Deputy directly, as soon as possible.
