Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht the estimated cost of doubling the funding provided through Foras na Gaeilge to the Irish language network development scheme, including the specific funding increase that would be required from the administrations in Dublin and at Stormont. Foras na Gaeilge has allocated €1,676,857 to the Irish Language Network Development Scheme, Scéim Forbartha Líonraí Gaeilge, for 2026.

The Government of Ireland provides 75% of the Foras na Gaeilge budget annually, with the remaining 25% coming from the Northern Ireland Executive, in accordance with the funding ratios agreed when the North-South Language Body was established. The cost of doubling the allocation for the scheme would be split as follows:

75%: €1,257,643

25%: €419,214
