Revenue Commissioners

261. Deputy Séamus McGrath asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Finance for an update on the disposal of the MV Matthew by the Revenue Commissioners; the full costs to date for the storage and upkeep of this vessel; the timeline for the completion of its disposal; and if the vessel is likely to be scrapped or sold for reuse. I am advised by Revenue that it has entered into an agreement with a proposed acquirer to facilitate the departure of the vessel from the Port of Cork.

Revenue has applied to the Panamanian authorities, as the flag State, to provide clearance for the vessel to depart. The timeline for completion of the disposal will depend on receipt of the clearance from the Panamanian Authorities. It is Revenue’s understanding that further works may be carried out by the acquirer that will enable the vessel to resume trading in due course.

The table below shows a breakdown of cost of maintenance and management of the MV Matthew up to end May 2026.
