Deputy Séamus McGrath asked the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation the timeline for the relocation of the Cork Passport Office; the overall cost of this relocation process, including the terms of the lease, the fit out costs and other related costs such as professional fees; and the amount that has been spent to date on the project. The Office of Public Works (OPW), in conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs, is progressing the development of new office accommodation for the Passport Service in Cork.

The project is currently at an advanced stage of design. It is anticipated that construction and fit-out works will be completed in Q2 2027. This is based on the current anticipated timelines on procurement and business environment.

Following the completion of the fit-out, a further period will be required for client-specific installations, including ICT and furniture, prior to occupation.

While it is not possible to provide fitout cost due to commercial sensitivity as the project is due to proceed to tender in the coming weeks, the expenditure to date is €42,870.30 incl. Vat. These costs relates to design fees, statutory planning costs and surveying reports.

The lease terms is for 20 years, beginning in January 2025. The current annual rent is €653,000 per annum.

The OPW and the Department of Foreign Affairs will continue to working collaboratively to deliver new office accommodation for the Passport Service in Cork.
