412. Deputy Roderic O'Gorman asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage if he is aware of the conservation covenants in use in England and Wales under the Environment Act 2021; if he plans to introduce a similar scheme here in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am aware that in England and Wales and some other jurisdictions a conservation covenant agreement is a private, voluntary agreement to conserve the natural or heritage features of the land. This can include buildings on the land.

There are no plans to introduce conservation covenants at the moment, however this is something that could be considered in the context of future legislative changes or in the implementation of the Nature Restoration Law.
