Martin Heydon Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Fine Gael

Bovine tuberculosis (bTB) is a challenging disease to control and eradicate. I am committed to making real progress in eradicating bTB as I am acutely aware of the emotional and financial trauma associated with a TB breakdown for farmers.

The table below outlines the overall cost to the Exchequer of the bTB Programme, excluding staff costs, in 2025. Expenditure increased from €100.616 million in 2024 to €121.987 million at the end of 2025.

The cost of all elements of compensation paid to farmers was €77.498 million. This comprises of the On Farm Market Valuation Scheme, Income Supplement Scheme, Hardship Scheme and the Depopulation Scheme and FWG Income Supplement Balancing payments.
