Olympic Games

435. Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport the medical, physiotherapy, equine physiotherapy, veterinary, psychological, logistical and performance supports provided by horse sport Ireland to Irish equestrian athletes and horses at the most recent Olympic games; how this compared with supports provided to athletes in other publicly funded sports; and whether the Minister is satisfied that public funding intended for high performance was spent primarily on athlete and horse performance supports. Charlie McConalogue Minister of State at the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport Fianna Fáil

Sport Ireland, which is funded by my Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the development of sport, increasing participation at all levels and raising standards. This includes the administration and distribution of high performance funding.

Accordingly, I have referred the Deputy's question to Sport Ireland for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to inform my office if a reply is not received within 10 days.
