85. Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if the Registrar of the International Court of Justice notified the Irish Government of the proceedings in the case of Nicaragua v Germany in relation to Alleged Breaches of Certain International Obligations in respect of the Occupied Palestinian Territory; the action that has been taken by the Government in response to this notification; and if the Government intends to make a declaration of intervention in line with Article 63 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice. Ireland was notified in March 2024 by the Registrar of the International Court of Justice of the initiation of proceedings by Nicaragua against Germany, along with all other states parties to the conventions cited by Nicaragua in these proceedings.
While Ireland has not intervened in this case, the Government has monitored developments in it since its initiation and will continue to do so.
