At Agriculture and Fisheries Council, Ireland’s work will be guided by the following clear objectives: to support farming and fishing families, protect incomes, strengthen competitiveness, sustain rural and coastal communities, and strike the right balance between the economic, social and environmental pillars of sustainability.

Farming is fundamental to ensuring Europe’s food security and supporting its competitiveness, while at the same time sustaining rural communities, and contributing to the Union’s climate and environmental objectives. Ireland’s Presidency will ensure that it remains at the heart of European policy, and that its place is actively protected and strengthened.

That is why one of my central priorities will be to advance discussions on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2027. The CAP reforms must preserve the policy's ability to contribute to food security, secure farm incomes and support rural resilience, with predictability and fairness. These priorities will guide the negotiations on the future framework and budget.

The Irish Presidency will also seek to progress the implementation of the Commission’s Vision for Agriculture and Food, with a particular focus on food security, generational renewal, sustainable livestock, the bioeconomy, animal welfare, and making EU rules simpler and more workable for farmers.
