The school to which the Deputy refers was sanctioned to open two special classes for September 2026 by the National Council for Special Education (NCSE). The school received two €30,000 Start Up Grants (total €60,000).
The school submitted two separate applications for additional funding under the Department's Additional Accommodation Scheme in February and April 2026. The applications were reviewed by my Department’s Professional & Technical Unit at the time and based on the information provided the applications were approved. An initial letter of approval was issued to the school on 28 May 2026.
The projects have now been devolved to the school authority to progress to the next step as outlined in the initial approval letter.
Officials at my Department will continue to liaise with the school to ensure these vital projects are progressed in a timely manner.
