Deputy Peter 'Chap' Cleere asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration to provide a breakdown of the speed limits that motorists were caught driving over and were fined on the N25 static speed cameras in Glenmore, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Whether it is fixed cameras, average speed cameras or GoSafe vans, the use of technology is a vital component of reducing speeding on our roads.
Road safety cameras are intended to be, first and foremost, a tool to support safety, prevention and behavioural change across the road network.
The aim of an enhanced use of cameras across Ireland is to encourage safer driving practices, reduce collisions and protect road users by promoting compliance with speed limits.
Nine static speed safety cameras are in operation across the country since 2024. The locations of these cameras were selected based on fatal and serious injury collision data and speed data, as well as feedback from stakeholders.
The table below has been provided to me by the Garda authorities and outlines the number of Fixed Charge Notices (FCNs) issued from the static speed camera zone on the N25 Ballinamona, Glenmore, Kilkenny:
