My Department is delivering significant projects in County Dublin and County Wexford and continues to progress further important projects in both counties.
Priority projects at earlier stages of the pipeline continue to be advanced, with particular emphasis on special schools, schools operating entirely in interim accommodation, projects providing significant special education capacity, additional accommodation to meet demographic growth, and schools with the most pressing building condition issues.
The Department is targeting 2027 for the publication of the next tranche of priority projects to proceed to tender. To be considered, projects will have to be at an appropriate stage of readiness. Prioritisation will be informed by departmental analysis, engagement with patrons and schools, available funding, and, where relevant, findings from the Department's school estate energy and condition survey, which is due to be completed by the end of this year.
County Dublin
Since 2020, the Department of Education and Youth has provided in the region of €1.9 billion in capital funding for schools across Dublin.
Over this period, a total of 273 schools in County Dublin have been upgraded either through provision of a new school building, a large-scale extension or provision of modular accommodation.
There are currently forty-three projects on site across County Dublin including ten new school buildings.
A further 160 large-scale and additional accommodation projects are progressing through the design pipeline: 56 at Preliminary Design (Stage 1), 46 at Developed Design (Stage 2a), and 45 at Detailed Design (Stage 2b) and 13 at Tender (Stage 3).
Of these school projects 15 in Dublin have been included in a priority tranche of projects due to move to tender or construction during 2026 and 2027 under the Department's National Development Plan implementation programme. These projects include new school buildings for Scoil Chronáin, St. Laurence O'Toole's Special School and Gaelcholáiste Reachrann.
There are also a further 72 projects being progressed under the Modular Programme and the Climate Action Summer Works Scheme.
County Wexford
Since 2020, the Department of Education and Youth has provided in the region of €202 million in capital funding for schools in County Wexford.
Over this period, a total of 66 schools in County Wexford have been upgraded either through provision of a new school building, a large-scale extension or provision of modular accommodation.
There are currently 17 projects on site across Wexford.
A further 34 large-scale and additional accommodation projects are progressing through the design pipeline: 15 at Preliminary Design (Stage 1), 8 at Developed Design (Stage 2a), and 11 at Detailed Design (Stage 2b).
Of these school projects an extension project for Our Lady of Fatima Special School is included in a priority tranche of projects due to move to tender or construction during 2026 and 2027 under the Department's National Development Plan implementation programme.
There are also a further 11 projects being progressed under the Modular Programme and the Climate Action Summer Works Scheme.
Due to the substantial volume of projects involved, it is not feasible to provide a detailed list at this level in this response. If the Deputy requires further information on a specific project, we can assist further.
The current status of all projects is set out under item number ten at the following link (www.gov.ie). This is updated on a regular basis to reflect project progress through the various stages of capital appraisal, site acquisition, design, tender and construction.
