The school referred to by the Deputy was approved to enter the Department’s pipeline of school building projects for a repurposing works project to create three special educational needs classrooms under the Additional School Accommodation Scheme 2026. This project is devolved to the school authority for delivery; however, the Joint Managerial Body is assisting with the appointment of the design team.

Following the appointment of the design team, the school will be required to submit a combined Stage 1/2a preliminary design report. Once received, this report will be reviewed from both a technical and cost perspective. The Department is committed to progressing the project as expeditiously as possible once the Stage 1/2a report has been received and assessed in accordance with the relevant approval and prioritisation processes.

At this stage, it is not possible to provide a definitive timeline for the project. Progression to the next phase is dependent on the completion of the required assessment and consideration under the prioritisation framework. However, my Department will review the submission as quickly as possible and, subject to a satisfactory outcome, will advance the project to the next stage at the earliest opportunity.
