The Programme for Government, Securing Ireland's Future, sets out this Government's commitment to continuing to support the growth of TG4 in meeting in public service remit.

The level of public funding to our public service media providers is determined in accordance with the Broadcasting Act 2009. Under this system, Coimisiún na Meán submit annual recommendations in respect of requisite level of public funding required to permit TG4 to fulfil their statutory public service objects. The most recent such funding recommendation, covering 2027, was submitted to me by An Coimisiún on 30 June this year and will inform considerations as part of the 2027 Budget and Estimates process.

It is worth noting that in its review of public funding allocations for this year, An Coimisiún recommended a funding level of €66.34m for TG4. The allocation which was secured in Budget 2026 amounted to €65.376m, which is 75% greater than the amount allocated in 2020. This is indicative of successive Governments' commitment to ensuring stable, sufficient funding for public service broadcasters to maintain quality programming and public trust.
