Telecommunications Infrastructure
1547. Deputy Peter Roche asked the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport whether ComReg, or any other statutory body, has responsibility for reviewing, auditing or determining the reasonableness of charges levied by telecommunications infrastructure providers on local authorities for infrastructure relocation works; if not, whether consideration will be given to establishing an independent oversight or appeals mechanism; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Minister has no role or statutory function in relation to the matter raised. The provision of electronic communication services such as mobile phone and broadband services, is a matter for telecoms operators who operate in a liberalised market, and the costs charged for the relocation of telecoms infrastructure is a matter for the owner of the infrastructure and not a matter for which the Department has any role or function.
