The management and maintenance of local authority social housing, including the carrying out of pre-letting repairs to vacant properties, the implementation of planned maintenance programmes and responsive repairs, are matters for individual local authorities under s. 58 of the Housing Act 1966. Local authorities must also ensure all their tenanted properties comply with the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations, 2019. Local authority elected members and officials must ensure adequate financial provision is made as part of their respective annual budgetary processes to meet their responsibilities in this regard.

Notwithstanding, my Department provides a contribution through a number of programmes to support local authority stock improvement works, including through the Planned Maintenance and Voids Programme. Critically, this funding complements local authority own investment, it is not a replacement for such investment.

Data of the funding provided and homes supported through the Planned Maintenance and Voids Programme, including that of Cork City and Cork County Council, can be accessed at gov.ie/en/department-of-housing-local-government-and-heritage/collections/other-local-authority-housing-scheme-statistics/#voids-programme

It should be noted that this data does not include void properties that were returned to use by local authorities using funding from their own resources.
