James Browne Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Fianna Fáil

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1740 and 1741 together.

More than 11,000 social homes have been retrofitted under my Department's Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme (EERP) since it was introduced in 2021. This programme aims to support the retrofit local authority social homes to a post works BER of 125KWh/m²/yr., with 36,500 social homes targeted out to 2030.

Some €140 million is being provided to local authorities through the programme this year. This is an increase of €50 million on the allocation in 2024 and 2025, and will support the retrofit of approximately 3,500 social homes. All local authorities were issued their 2026 targets and allocations in Q1 this year, and work is progressing.

An annualised breakdown of the funding provided by my Department for the retrofit of local authority social homes between 2013 and 2025 inclusive, and the number of homes upgraded, are available on the Department's website at gov.ie/en/publication/668c1-energy-efficiency-retrofitting-programme-expenditure-output/.

My Department also introduced a pilot Midlands Energy Retrofit Programme in 2020. Output data on the from the pilot can be accessed at gov.ie/en/publication/b86b3-midlands-energy-retrofit-programme-expenditure-and-units/#.
