Christopher O'Sullivan Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage Fianna Fáil

As set out in the Programme for Government, this Government recognises the importance of continuing to support the ongoing expansion and resourcing of our National Parks. The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) of my Department carefully considers any potential acquisitions on a case by case basis and in line with public procurement requirements.

Due to the nature of potential land transactions and the impact that bringing any such considerations into the public domain could have, I am not in a position to comment on individual sites that may be offered for sale or on whether any such sites are being actively considered by my Department. This approach is necessary to protect the State's strategic interests, maintain the integrity of any potential acquisition process and help secure value for money for the taxpayer in respect of any land transactions that may arise for consideration by the NPWS anywhere in Ireland.
