I understand that in Parliamentary Question No. 1376 of 9 June 2026 you sought:

“To ask the Minister for Justice; Home Affairs and Migration the number of stop and search incidents recorded for each of the years 2015 to 2025, and to date in 2026; the locations at which such stop and searches occurred; and the number of these stop and searches that resulted in successful prosecutions, in each years 2015 to 2025.; and if he will make a statement on the matter”.

You will recall that the information could not be obtained in the time available, and I undertook to contact you again when the requested information was received from the Garda authorities.

An Garda Síochána published a Knife Related Crime Report in 2025 which includes a breakdown of the count of searches conducted by Garda Region and Division for the 2015 to 2024 period. That information is available in Appendix Three on page 15 at the following link: www.garda.ie/en/about-us/publications/general-reports/knife-related-crime-2015-to-2024.pdf

Figures for 2025 are available in the following table:

I am informed that figures for 2026 are unavailable and that An Garda Síochána can provide full year annual statistics only in line with their proactive publication strategy.

I am also informed that An Garda Síochána are unable to reliably identify the proportion of searches which resulted in a successful prosecution since crime incidents are not always linked with the originating search incident on the Garda PULSE system.

However, it is possible to separately report upon the volume of crimes reported each year and quarter across a broad range of crime types and by Garda Division using crime statistics published by the CSO, here:
