Jim O'Callaghan Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Fianna Fáil

I understand that in Parliamentary Question No. 459 of 28 May 2026 you sought:

“To ask the Minister for Justice; Home Affairs and Migration the number of new Garda cars and vans added to the Garda fleet within Donegal division in the years of 2025 to-date in 2026; the number of Garda cars and vans withdrawn from this division during same period, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter.”

You will recall that the information could not be obtained in the time available, and I undertook to contact you again when the requested information was received from the Garda authorities.

The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, which includes all operational policing matters, such as the distribution and deployment of the Garda fleet across the State. The Commissioner is independent in his functions under Section 34 of the Act.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of cars and vans allocated to and removed from Donegal Division in 2025 and 2026 is included in the following tables:

I am further advised that the purchase and allocation of vehicles by An Garda Síochána is made on the basis of identified operational demands, the availability of resources, and is reviewed on a continual basis.
