Residency Permits

2448. Deputy Ivana Bacik asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration his plans to prioritise applications for independent residence permissions submitted by migrant victims of domestic abuse, in view of reported processing times increasing from approximately two weeks to up to 12 weeks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Colm Brophy Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Fine Gael

I can inform the Deputy that applications from victims of domestic abuse whose immigration status is currently dependent on the perpetrator of that abuse, and who are seeking an independent permission, are prioritised by my Department.

It is important to note that each request is considered on a case by case basis and processing times may vary due to a number of factors, such as the number of applications on hand, individual circumstances, the complexity of applications, and whether further information is required.

Applications can be made in writing or through my Departments Customer Service Portal. Further information on the application process and required documents is available on the Immigration Service website at the following link: www.irishimmigration.ie/my-situation-has-changed-since-i-arrived-in-ireland/immigration-guidelines-for-victims-of-domestic-abuse/.

If an applicant has any queries relating to their application, they can contact Immigration Service Delivery through the Customer Service Portal here: portal.irishimmigration.ie/en/

Details on how to submit a query can be found at the following link: www.irishimmigration.ie/customer-service-portal-a-guide-to-using-the-online-self-service-portal/.
