The most recent data available from the CSO’s Farm Structure Survey 2023 indicated that women account for 13.2% of the 133,174 farm holders in Ireland. It found that in general, larger farms were more likely to have a male holder, with male farm holders accounting for approximately 90% of farms larger than 50 hectares. 17.4% of farm holders on farms less than 10 hectares were female.

Over the ten-year period from 2013 to 2023, there was an increase in the percentage of female farm holders, which was 11.9% in 2013.

More data is available on the CSO website. The 2026 Farm Structure Survey has recently taken place, with results expected later this year.
