Medical Cards

Summary

Carol Nolan raised inequitable low-vision aid access for medical-card holders in the midlands; the Minister referred the service matter to the HSE.

3129. Deputy Carol Nolan asked the Minister for Health if she will address the ongoing inequity in access to low vision aids for medical card holders in the midlands, including Offaly, where the HSE currently allocates only €5,000 per year for four counties combined; if she accepts that this results in only one third of need being met and leaves approximately 20 people in Offaly annually without essential supports; and when the HSE will move the midlands to the same GMS model used in the majority of the country. As this is a service matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond to the Deputy directly, as soon as possible.
