Seán Canney Minister of State at the Department of Transport Independent

My department, in close partnership with the Office of Public Works (OPW), is committed to ensuring Irish Coast Guard (IRCG) units nationwide are supported by facilities that meet the highest standards for operational readiness and public safety while also delivering value for money for the Exchequer.

A key focus for the IRCG over the past year has been the undertaking of a review of how facilities are provided for our IRCG Volunteers, with specifications that are appropriate to requirements. This exercise has involved extensive engagement with the OPW, resulting in an agreed IRCG Building Strategy which I launched in November 2025.

New accommodation for the Old Head of Kinsale Coast Guard Unit is prioritised within the building programme. My department will continue to work with OPW to identify suitable options, with due consideration to achieving value for money for the exchequer and in alignment with the objectives of the IRCG Building Strategy.
